A Saudi Atrocity

"A 75-year-old widow living in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for mingling with two young men who are not close relatives, her lawyer said Monday. The newspaper Al Watan said the woman, Khamisa Sawadi, met with two 24-year-old men in April after she asked them to bring five loaves of bread to her home. The two men, her nephew and his business partner, were arrested by the religious police after delivering the bread, the newspaper said. They were also sentenced to lashes and imprisonment. The verdict against Ms. Sawadi, a Syrian who was married to a Saudi, also orders her deportation after her sentence is served. Her lawyer said he would appeal."

Doesn't this just make you SICK!

My husband's spend quite a bit of time in Saudi, and he is never suprised by stories like this, though shocked yes. Some of the behaviour there can be outrageous.

Sick? Yes. Surprised? Not in the least. The laws there are little above barbaric.

A very though provoking post.
Yes, it does make me sick! I wonder whether the founder of that faith would have reacted like that, I suspect not. I think the 'teaching' may have come a long time after him by fanatics.
The world is spiralling down and down and common sense and decency seem totally depressed whilst PC and 'mandy pandy' politics rule supreme. I am outraged by the recent reception of our troops returning from Iraq. I am very annoyed that this is going on in 'our country'. We want it back! not discipline your children at home or at school take precident over everything

Sickeningly, I am beyond surprise. Hubby travels to the Middle East frequently, atrocities such as this are common place.

Poor woman. 'Tis a sad, sick world in which we live.
