Happy New Year!

Well here we are, the end of the noughties! At least it is for me here in Japan - the rest of you will have to wait a few hours.

I would love to have some profound thoughts to share with you but alas I have none. So in the absence of perspicacity all I can say is thank you. Ah, but who to you may ask? Well some that truly deserve to hear it will have long forgotten me and have no chance of reading this, such as the many people that helped my 13 years in Japan a (mostly!) pleasant stay.

One person stands out above all others though - someone who has never stopped believing in me and has given me the strength to carry on in the face of adversity - someone who gave me my own mantra "I am a fighter and I will not give in" - someone who sees the days of the week in colours (and probably responsible for my daughter doing the same).........

And I could go on, and on.........

Thank you for everything so far......

To my mother Maggie May

Some say it with flowers, I say it with music - you won't understand the words but this is for you - arigatou (thank you)

With all my love

Oh, Sam, your mother is a precious woman! And this is just more proof of it! Beautiful mantra.

Wish the video were in Chinese, I would have a shot at translation.

What a lovely tribute to your mother! I know--even if she hadn't left a comment--that this had to make her day. Your mother is indeed an inspiration and a "fighter"--I wish her the best in her personal battle right now.

Have a safe journey home; I know your mother will be so happy to see you again.

Beautiful post, Sam...and you are blessed indeed to have such a mum!!! But I think perhaps that you take after her...and this post is proof! God bless you for this...you have touched all of our hearts today! Hope you won't mind...but as your mum and godfather are important to me, and as you have posted such a wonderful tribute here, I think I shall have to follow you! And so..."Hello! Allow me to introduce myself...my name's Janine! Looking forward to getting to know you!" All the best to you and yours~Janine

She so deserves that recognition and I am pleased for you both - mothers and sons are precious are they not?
